Common values, a clear big picture vision and a constructive approach to debate do a large part of the work of allowing a coalition of people to come together in pursuit of common goals. If some people do not feel able to stick with us on this mission that is their decision - without a common religion there is little holding a broad church together.

It is incumbent on all of us who share the Conservative view of fairness to support the development of the right policies, get out on doorsteps and make the case for them and secure the better future which is within reach.

The lesson of the Titanic was not “build bigger ships.” It was “learn to navigate.” Yet our politics today is all about tonnage and paintwork, with grand launches lacking in consistent advocacy, while the ice drifts ever closer.
